Default changing the aspect ratio of an AVI

right gentlemen time to put on your thinking caps

my daughter has a DIVX player in her room and I got loads of films to burn to disc....trouble is she has an old TV which isnt wide-screen and all the films are wide-screen therefore we end up with massive black boarders on screen and it kinda pisses me off :@

my question is thus....is there a way I can edit or re-encode an AVI file from 16:9 to 4:3? yes I know there will be some quality loss but I just wanna try it and see how it goes.

anyone know how to go about this ?

Doesn't the control have a button that changes it?

Depending on how old the TV is, most TV's have this option.

    no.

what i mean is when you burn the AVI to a DVD as in straight burn, not converting to play like a DVD it burns at the aspect ration of the original file.

if that 16:9 then that what you watch it at. there is no way of changing it you can zoom in and such but that cuts of part of the sides of the film......
