    Smile Usenet + IPV6 Info

Finding free Usenet servers is sometimes a problem, finding servers that allow and provide binaries newsgroups is very difficult indeed. At least it was. This is because a lot of servers where you normally would need a paid subscription are now testing for the new IPv6 protocol. Now who do you think is needed to do these tests? That’s right! We are! Now before we get started let’s set some things straight:

    - In this post you will find information on IPv6, tunnels, free Usenet servers who work with IPv6 and the information on how to configure these servers in Grab-It, News-leech, AltBinz or any other Usenet downloading software

    - Using Usenet you will be able to download movies, games and software with the speed of your internet connection (max 20 mbits) for free, if you do not know anything about this but you are interested in using this great free service you should first learn some basics

    What is IPv6?

Internet protocol Version 6 (IPv6) is the continuator of Internet protocol Version 4 (IPv4). It has been developed because of the restrictions and as a remedy for shortcomings of IPv4. Shortage to available IP-numbers provides an enormous problem for IPv4: there are 4 billion IPv4-addresses available and roughly speaking in 2022, all available addresses would be in use. Because of this a new structure is necessary, so that the unused address ranges can again be used. IPv4 has 4 × 109 addresses, whereas IPv6 has space for 3,4 × 1038 addresses. For each earthling there are approximately 50,000 quadrillion IPv6-addresses available.
Beside a large address range IPv6 offers some other improvements:

    * Better routing and network-configuration
    * NAT is not needed anymore
    * Data security on IP-level
    * Support for mobile nodes

Free IPv6 servers that are available at the moment:

    Code:
    Eweka
    Adress: news.ipv6.eweka.nl
    Port: 119
    Connections: 20
    Speed: 20mbit
    username: none
    Pass: none
    retention: 107 days
    Code:
    Newszilla
    Address: newszilla6.xs4all.nl
    Port: 119
    Connections: 3
    Speed: 150 kb/s
    user-name: geen
    Pass: geen
    retention: 18 days

    Code:
    XSNews.nl
    reader.ipv6.xsnews.nl
Retention: around 100 days too, Unlimited???
Signup for Xsnews and enter your email address, they'll send u a username/password for your client
    http://www.xsnews.com/ipv6/ipv6_aanvraag.php
    Tunnel Providers:

Its heaps easy. Just go to www.go6.net and sign up.
Once you've done that they will send you an email with the tunnel settings and a link to dl the client software.
After installing just put your details in and click connect and voila!

Then I just made a batch file (or .cmd file in vista) with notepad with these lines:

    netsh interface portproxy add v4tov6 listenport=1119 connectaddress=news.ipv6.eweka.nl connectport=119
    netsh interface portproxy add v4tov6 listenport=1118 connectaddress=newszilla6.xs4all.nl connectport=119
    netsh interface portproxy add v4tov6 listenport=1120 connectaddress=reader.ipv6.xsnews.nl connectport=119
    netsh interface portproxy add v4tov6 listenport=1121 connectaddress=freebin.readnews.com connectport=119
    cd CProgram Files\NewsLeecher
    newsleecher.exe
You can add more servers in the same manner, just change the servername and server port accordingly. Then choose a new "listenport" for the server eg 1118, 1119, 1120 etc

Then in Newsleecher I setup the servers like so:

    - Server address will always be 127.0.0.1
    - Port will be whatever listenport is assigned to the server in your batch file you created above.

Then open your batchfile to start Newsleecher and Presto! You'll have access.

    - Double-click on the .bat file you just created and newsleecher (or other software you choose and filled out in .bat file) is started.
    - Grab an .nzb file and start downloading!
    - remember to start your software using the .bat file every-time you want to use this method!

Now it does work as I use this method all the time now and may be of some use to some of you who don't use premium; if you have a problem.. go over the Faq again and if still refuses to work ..leave a message and I will see if I can help you out

NOTE : I do not take credit for this FAQ.. I just tidied it up a touch and added a new Newserver namely xs news..

    - Post Cleanup
    - Topic title changed

I just tidyed up your post a little bit, as it was just a huge wall of text, and it might have been a bit horrible to try and understand.
I also changed the title so it's more infomative and appealing. Having "if your a bum like me.. read on" really don't go well.

    Um.. its a possibility.

But no seriously I know a lot of people who don't like to part cash for Premium or simply put cant really afford too in some cases..

I just stumbled across the FAQ rather than hunting it down and its been good to use.

When you read the FAQ ..you get a feeling "oh this seems a bit confusing and hard to grasp ..never mind setting it up" but once you have done it once you're away really.

Its my Humble premium gateway so to speak.. I think the highest retention .nzb file I got was 159 days ..and managed to get it and that was with xs.news.

Not bad for free I guess..
