Nintendo Suffers Quarterly Loss
Citing declining Wii software and Nintendo DS hardware, as well as a fluctuating exchange rate, Nintendo posted a net income loss of 25.2 billion yen (about $290 million) during its first fiscal quarter ended June 2010.
During the same quarter last year, Nintendo posted a 42.3 billion yen (about $487 million) profit.
Software highlights for the quarter include: Super Mario Galaxy 2 with 4.09 million units worldwide. New Super Mario Bros. Wii, released last fiscal year, continued to sell during the quarter with 1.1 million units worldwide. Wii Sports Resort came in at 3 million units, Wii Sports at 2.7 million, and Wii Fit Plus at 1.8 million.
On the Nintendo DS software side, Pokemon Heart Gold/SoulSilver versions top out at 1.7 million units for the quarter.
Nintendo is maintaining its previous full year sales forecasts of 18 million Wii consoles and 30 million Nintendo DSs.

- Wii software: 573.00 million units worldwide
