Mafia II - [User Submitted; Speedmeister]
I will admit, I didn't really like the first game, I think it's quite possibly because of the age and style the game is set in. I'm not really a 1930-40s person, obviously. I will admit, when I first saw this coming out, i was skeptical, as I had expected it would be like the first.
The demo had come out, and I hadn't got my internet at the time, but I went over to The Killing Jokes and he let me try out the demo. I thought it was decent, although short. I was still skeptical about trying it, but once I got my internet back, I re-tried the Demo, and actually started driving around to get used to it. I started getting into it.
The full game come out, and I beat it in just over 8 hours, so it is a pretty short game. You can probably speed-run it in about 6.
I have to admit, I was quite pelased on how the game turned out, and it's 1 of a few games I've actually followed the story and payed attention, most of the time, I prefer to skip cutscenes, and just get shooting.
I will admit, that the first few missions we're pretty boring, and there really wasnt much involved, apart from a few driving missions. The first man action packed mission, was in fact the one you played on the Demo.
I'd say, after Chapter 6, it gets alot better, and the fun really kicks in.
What I do like about the game, is in 1 chapter, I won't say what, you actually learn techniques on the fighting, and although it's not.. great, it's not bad either.
Graphics wise, I'm quite impressed, because they haven't made the game LOOK on how it would have done back in 1940-50, yet, they still have kept the same style on which it would have been.
Gameplay wise, I thought it was good. The cover system works well, unlike the likes of Kayne and Lynch 2, on which is just TERRIBLE.
The police, are a little to easy to lose at times, and to beat, although, it can take 3-4 shots to actually kill someone.
Presentation, it's easy to navigate, and it's pretty much simular to Grand Theft Auto. The only down-fall about the game, is when you finsih the game, there isn't any room or option for Free Roam, and to be pretty honest, free-roaming will be very repetive, VERY quick.
Overall, I'm pleased with the game, and it's certainly a step up to Mafia, which is showing it's age now.
I don't like the fact, and feel sorrt for legit users who are expected to buy the game 3-4 times, from different retailers to get the other DLCs. Thankfully, us pirates don't have to worry about that.
I'm looking forward to the Jimmys Vendetta DLC as this is expected to add another 5 hours worth of missions. I believe this is expected in the next few days, and how that will be bought, most likely on STEAM for about £7.
Graphics: 9
Presentation:7
Gameplay: 8
Does this game have a reply factor, I would say so, yes, but like I said, it's pretty short.

Your Mother Doesn't know how to say no!
I liked this game..
However, two things bugged me majorly.
1) It uses the GTA:IV engine. I played on the 360, and things just appeared, as you were skidding with the brakes on full lock.
2) It was too easy to die. And the AI was pretty lame. They shot at walls, where you were - even if they haven't saw you go there.
But I liked everything else.
Also, Loved Chapter 10, a LOT.
No one knows that this sentence is true.

Agreed. Chap 10 was probably the best Chapter, with Chap 14 being the next one. They both are probably the most action packed Chapters in the game.

Flower Power
The game has a lot of chapters for such a short game. I played the demo and halfway enjoyed it. Don't think I'd pay retail price for it right now but maybe I will buy it on eBay when I can get it for a fraction of that used in the future.
By the way, nice review Speed.
