Search around for Motorcycle training courses, they usually have all the beat up and raped bikes that people drop, burn the clutches and basically destroy.

You could probably find a cheap one, and then spend some money repairing it.

The class I took before I received my endorsement had Honda Nighthawks that were raped to hell, but they still ran and they were selling them at a reasonable price, or try crackslists. (Craigslist)

Grab a copy of Bike Trader. Most decent sized newsagents should carry it.

Oodles of bargain bikes in there.

“Good morning, human. Why have you turned your planet into a greenhouse, destroyed all your vital resources and locked yourself in endless war? Now you have nowhere to live. Why did you not act?”

“Too busy playing FIFA. Fuck off. This is a ranked match.”

Just look on Biketrader.co.uk or MCN websites. Local dealers WILL have a few basic ones like a CG or a YBR.

What kind of bike you looking for? Just for commuting or is it just for fun.

Could buy mine if you want to wait a few months Its alright nick apart from a few scratches.

What price range do you want. If you go below £800 you're looking at rust buckets, damaged or shitty chinese/korean bikes.

It's something that really isn't advertised, because of course, manufactures want you to purchase new bikes.

Considering that I only started riding this year, I wish I would have bought a course training bike. Starting off your first year should be a kick around and learners bike, not a 2010 Harley Iron.

I am fortunate that I actually haven't caused serious damage to bike, only minor damage that can be fix, but when you begin riding. (for me anyway) It should have been a beginners bike, something I'm able to drop, then upgrade when I'm more experienced.

The course I took taught you the basics of how to operate a motorcycle, and they taught you turns, stopping, shifting and everything else, but unless you ride on city streets and encounter actual events not simulated, I think you could potentially make the same mistakes I have.

Wait, what was I talking about again?

Oh, yeah. Search around for training courses and ask if they have any bikes they are getting rid off, and make them an offer. My friend purchased two dead bikes from a course, and there up and running with some minor work and money invested.

Always start small. Learning just begins after passing the training courses.

Buying the reliable commuters are great to start on for basics. Easy to handle, easy to fix and will hardly ever need to fix em. You can get em for around £1000 (Honda or Yamaha are best) and they keep thier value well.

Bikes like these are cheep and easy. tops out about 65 but you dont really need much.

if you dont mind doing stuff to your bike now and then you can get a 2-stroke. But kinda expencive to run.

Sports 4-stoke is easy and fun. Gets you ready to move on to the next stage.

Slowly build up the size of your bike as you gain more confidence. You tend to grow out 125's fast but keep them for a bit longer. You'll learn to handle a bike with them, and then when you add more power, you'll be able to use em better.
